Joel Meyers Aka Jolex (nickname not self-applied), makes miniature galaxies out of glass. He uses a combination of glass granules and colored glass rods, to create a myriad of textures which are then reverse painted into the glass. A proprietary blend of precious metal shavings help give the nebulous look in the background, adding depth to the galaxies. Finally, a third layer of glass is added to seal off the pattern and encapsulate the planets in class. These flat marbles or “cabochons,” are used as jewelry, accents on functional pieces, and paperweights. The look he has developed is very distinct and recognizable as his own style. He has exhibited all over the United States, Spain, Switzerland, Australia, Chile, and Canada. His inspiration comes from Josh Simpson, Max Polin, and Eric Saunders-White.
